Overdrive

After so many months of waiting and waiting and having nothing happen, it's really hard to deal with a week where so much can happen and so many decisions need to be made about this crazy project. The foundation has been poured as of this afternoon and the rest of the week has a lot in store:

* Rain drain and utility trenching starts tomorrow
* More shaping of the driveway happens on Wednesday
* Foundation forms come off and backfill happens this week
* Framing starts Friday

By this time in two weeks, the bones will be forming. This pace is insane. Now we need to decide on all our appliances and materials within two weeks to get our orders in.

Time to become an expert on things I know nothing about!

Birth of a foundation

Hard to believe this is really happening at last, but this foundation skeleton shows where the house is going to be. This time next week, solid concrete and rebar will be set and ready to build on.

A long time coming

I've decided to put this blog together to help interested people keep track of progress on the teardown and rebuild of my childhood home (dubbed Phoenix Estates as of this sentence), as it has been a long and windy process just to get to the foundation stage. I hope it's at least mildly entertaining and informative for everyone concerned. Excavation is now finally complete (long and painful 3 week process there) and foundation forms are being set as I type, so I am finally comfortable with documenting this whole experience so as not to jinx it. Per the contractor (Mike from Lifestyle Homes) the foundation can start pouring on Monday, and trenching for gas and water service can start on Tuesday. We should have a solid foundation by the end of the week!
